IMPORTANT FERRY INFORMATION

ABOUT MONHEGAN ISLAND: Click here

CROSSING TIME: 50 minutes one-way

DAY TRIP LAYOVER: Approx. 5 hours

RESERVATION INFORMATION: Click here

IF YOU’RE SPENDING THE DAY: Trash generated on the Island must be removed by boat and returned to the mainland. If you generate any trash while on the Island, please bring it back to the ferry for recycling and disposal. Pack in/Pack out.

RESTROOMS: Modern restrooms are available aboard the boat. We recommend you use these restrooms before departing on the Island and once you return to the boat. Public restrooms are available on the Island for a fee and are located behind the Monhegan House in the village.

ARRIVAL: Please arrive at the dock 45 minutes prior to departure. Allow for extIMG_2231ra time to unload if you have luggage.

LUGGAGE / FREIGHT POLICY:

Please consolidate all your belongings into as few pieces of luggage as possible. No one item should weigh more than 50 lbs (similar to most airlines.) If you can not lift your own luggage into your car, it is probably too heavy. We recommend using plastic totes, sturdy suitcases, well constructed boxes and/or coolers.

Please NO:

  • NO bungee cords. They are dangerous for crew and often come undone.
  • NO Ikea bags.
  • NO paper bags.
  • NO plastic shopping bags or trash bags.
  • NO open bags or boxes that stuff will fall out of.
  • NO wheeled luggage carts or wagons (artist carts are acceptable).
  • NO fishing hooks attached to fishing rods.

Please do not bring your own water. It is heavy to transport and is easily purchased on the Island.

As you pack, please keep in mind that all baggage handling from your car to the boat to the island dock to the trucks to your accommodation is done by hand. In the interest of space and weight limitations aboard the vessel, we suggest each ticketed passenger limit themselves to: 2 – suitcase / bag / tote, less than 50 lbs each, and 1 – carry-on item. (For example, for a party of 2, this would be 4 suitcases and 2 carry-on items. For a total of 6 items.)

Green Hardy Boat luggage tags are required on each item and are available at the dock. We require that you clearly mark each tag with the name of your accommodation. The tags help to facilitate efficient luggage handling on the island and prevent lost baggage.

Saturday Ferries – Boats are extremely busy on Saturdays and we ask that you pack wisely and label your baggage clearly with your name and your island accommodation. Duct tape and sharpies work well and are weather proof.

The following items are NOT permitted on the boat:

  • Bicycles, per island request (if space allows, exceptions are made for cycling groups traveling from one ferry to the other via Monhegan)
  • Gasoline or Propane (per US Coast Guard)
  • No cars are allowed on the Island

All other freight will be charged. Please call ahead if you plan to bring something unusual.

Hardy Boat Cruises is not responsible for damaged, broken or lost luggage or freight.

The Monhegan Trucking Company, The Island Inn, The Monhegan House and The Trailing Yew will meet each ferry to gather luggage to take to your accommodation.

MONHEGAN TRUCKING COMPANY: HBC 2015 Monhegan TruckingLuggage transportation to and from cottage rentals is available on Monhegan for a fee via the Monhegan Trucking. Transportation for your baggage is $3.00 per bag/tote/piece. Oversized baggage is $6.00. Make sure each piece of luggage is clearly marked with the name of your accommodation.

FOOD & GROCERIES: Monhegan Island is fortunate to have a wonderful food and grocery store called L. Brackett & Son. The store is a vital resource to the year round Island community. The store carries a wide variety of food items including organic foods and freshly grown island produce. It is our collective responsibility to support this and other Island businesses during the well-traveled summer months. Groceries and consumables (water, milk, soda, beer, wine, eggs, bread, butter, etc.) should be purchased upon your arrival. For more information about the Island grocery store, please contact Lisa at L.Brackett & Son: 207-594-2222

KAYAKS: $15 round trip.

PETS: $5 round trip. All pets must be leashed or kenneled while aboard. If you bring your dog, you must be prepared to collect and remove all pet waste. Dogs must remain on a leash at all times.

GALLEY: Coffee, tea, healthy snacks and home baked goodies available.

PARKING: $4 per day per vehicle and payable CASH ONLY. No credit cards or personal checks are accepted. For multiple day and overnight parking, the parking fee is payable upon the first day of parking. Parking is located around the corner from the dock in a large grassy field. Upon paying for your parking, you will receive a parking validation. You will need to present your parking validation at the dock to collect your boat tickets (peak season only). Please feel free to drive down to the dock to unload passengers and luggage before leaving your vehicle in the parking lot. The walk back to the dock is about 5 minutes. During the Spring and Fall, parking is payable at the ticket booth on the dock. The parking lot can accommodate buses, campers, RV’s and trailers.

ALL Hardy Boat patrons MUST park in the grassy field. Our parking lot is located in a safe, quiet, residential area.
PLEASE DISARM YOUR CAR ALARM.
Cars parked at Shaw’s Wharf Restaurant will be towed at the owner’s expense.
